Helping Hands Projects
One of the reasons our members join the Junior League is their desire to give
something back to the community. These are short term projects that meet a
specific need in the community and in which our members have an opportunity to
participate.
These are just a few of our projects:
- Harlem Heights Backpack Project - The League has donated time and money to
assure that over 250 students in the Harlem Heights Area arrived at school
on the first day with all of the tools they needed to be successful.
- Candlelighters Golf Tournament - This organization lends support to
families who have children with cancer or other blood disorders. Our
members assist with the event in several ways in order to help with this
fundraiser.
- TLC Complex - This group works hard to ensure that sibling groups whose
parents are unable to care for them stay together. We will be working to
refurbish the playground area at the home.
- The Local Soup Kitchen Food Drive - This event is held in conjunction with
Taste of the Town every year. All donations that are collected at or prior
to Taste are given to the Local Soup Kitchen.
- Harlem Heights Holiday Giving Tree - League members come together to
purchase gifts for the mothers and children in the Harlem Heights area.
This project is coordinated with the Harlem Heights Foundation which is an
incredible asset to the Heights Community.
- NBC2 Giving Tree - League members take shifts collecting, sorting and
distributing the gifts that are dropped off at Perkin's restaurants as part
of NBC2's annual Giving Tree Project to benefit the elderly members of our
community.
