Calusa Nature Center

The Nature Center was born out of a suitcase, as a collection of traveling exhibits put together by the women of the Junior League.

The dedication of these community spirited women, traveling to local schools to teach lesions in nature and science, was the driving force of what would become the Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium.

More than 60,000 visitors to the Calusa Nature Center have annually come to understand the nature of Southwest Florida and the importance of preserving and protecting it. Thousands have discovered it as a safe place to walk the trails, learn about nature, and touch a live snake. Summer camps as well as field trips by public and private schools have personally engaged students in nature and science.

As founding members the Junior League has contributed $148,428.00 and countless hours to the Center over the last 35 years.
